About MechanicX
Garage software written inside a working garage.
MechanicX is garage management software for independent UK workshops. It was built by people who run one — not by a software company guessing at how a workshop day actually goes.
Why we built it
We were running a garage on a paper diary, a customer spreadsheet and a separate invoicing app. Jobs were being re-typed three times, MOTs were being missed, and labour was walking out of the workshop on scraps of paper. Every system we looked at was either built for a dealer group, priced per user, or needed a rollout project and a consultant.
So we wrote the one we wanted: a booking becomes a job card, the job card becomes an invoice, the invoice becomes a payment, and the vehicle's history is there the next time it comes in. Nothing else. Every feature in MechanicX has been used on a real job in a real bay before it reached other garages.
Who builds it
MechanicX is built and supported by Daniel Staples, Director — a workshop operator and the developer of the product. When you email support, you are emailing the person who writes the software, which is why fixes and changes usually land in days rather than quarters. Feature requests from garages go straight onto the list.
MechanicX is operated by S Legacy Holdings Ltd, a company registered in England. The product, its support and its data all sit in the UK, and it is built for UK garages specifically: DVSA MOT data, UK VAT, pounds, and the way UK workshops actually invoice.
How we build
- Simple by default. Anything your shop does not use can be hidden, so the screens stay short.
- Priced in the open. £29, £59 or £119 a month, published on the pricing page. No per-seat charge, no setup fee, no sales call.
- Your data is yours. Export customers, vehicles, job history and invoices whenever you like — including on the way out.
- Security taken seriously. We work to Cyber Essentials controls and ISO 27001 information-security principles. What that means in practice is on our Trust & Security page.
